Prince of Wales (Kilburn)

Shergar

You come out of Kilburn Park tube and you turn left don't ya; you go anti-clockwise (of course you do)! Unless you actually live to the right of the station, you'll have never even seen The Prince of Wales...Straight up to the High Road you'll head, i'd hazard; to the bus stops, the shops or to one of the other numerous boozers.

See,....that's why you'll never see me! And that's why I can drink happily undisturbed in this boozer. I go "right" out of the tube, and clockwise to the boozer,...everyone's a winner! I'm not a stupid as i look.

They all know me here in The Prince; they're a good bunch of trustworthy locals, and staff. Ole Vincent runs a pretty tight ship, but he'll happily let me sit in the corner, as long as i don't rock the boat. Consequently, no one in the wider world knows i'm in here, or that i even still exist. No one's gonna grass me up (to the press) in this gaff; especially not, since they all reap the benefits of my infamous fail-safe tips.

Since i voluntarily went AWOL back in 1983, i've been in this boozer pretty much every day i reckon. The kidnapper lads dropped me off in Kilburn more or less immediately after the (staged) abduction and, to be honest, they did me a massive favour there! I love it here in this area - since most of the juicers have remained relatively untouched,..........unchanged by modernisation and fads, Kilburn is an area where the pubs pretend to no-one,......when you walk in a Kilburn boozer you know exactly what you'll get (and what you won't).

,....God, it makes me laugh when i think of it now; those documentaries and movies investigating my whereabouts! Yeah,..those really slay me every time! We fooled everyone didn't we!

Cos, I'd had enough hadn't i!! I mean, put yourself in my position (back then). If you were to take the life of a middleweight boxer; who's constantly stuggling to make the weight, and times it by ten, you still wouldn't even get close to understanding the enforced training regime that i was forced to undergo in those days! I couldn't put up with that crap any longer,...i like a pint and a fag as much as the next horse don't I! *Everybody needs a little R & R don't they?* So i arranged the whole thing. *And by "I", i mean "We",...The local betting shop lads were happy to help.*

Couse, I don't have to work nowadays. Not with my insider knowledge i don't. And i've no need for much cash anyhow, cos when i'm here in The Prince, (where the racing is always on) i just deal out my predictions, and the drinks are always on the house. Whenever i DO need some cash, (for new hay or some "Shoeing"), i just have a punt on a sure thing myself and "Hey presto" i'm liquid again.

Don't let anyone tell you that there are never any "Sure Things." There are.

I was a bit of a Stallion in my day, if you're catching my drift! Not all of my sexual liaisons were "arranged" for heavens sake, no one can live like that! You've gotta sow your oats when you've prize winning semen, haven't ya! So, subsequently,.. as a result of my youthful shananigans - i'm never short of a sure thing at the races, cos i've a lotta illegitimate sprogs on the circuit thesedays. *They're always absolute "Bankers", cos they've all got their daddy's "Vim" - and not a lotta people know that. Mums the word.*

See, i'm a horse that thinks outside his (horse) box; i used to do it on the track and i'm still doing it now. It's what's kept me out of the glue factory, out of a Frenchman's lunchbox, and safely inside this boozer. *Oh, the unbridled joy of a good session!*

The Prince of Wales in Kilburn; if you ask me, Shergar? Well, it's a good pub and an excellent place to keep your head down; it can be our little secret.

Remember! You ain't seen me right.

Straight from the horses mouth this one. I dunno about you Shergar, but I reckon it's a dogs life being a horse.
